Yep, had the same problem with my daughter’s and my hp laptops. Totally, different series, but eventually same symptoms.

Because, HP finally admitted that it was a hardware malfunction from the get go, they added a year to their service warranty, making it a 2 year warranty instead of 1.

They never contacted me, though. I had no idea, that our different symptoms were the same issue.

Anyway, with my daughters computer, the first time it happened, we thought it was a power surge that had created the issue.

After about a month without her computer, one day she just decided to try turning it on again. Wa Laa! It just seemed to be working again.

Then about 9 months later, same issue. After the first experience, we decided to let it sit and try again. Tried it the next day, nothin’. Tried it the second day…. After about a week, we just gave up.

This time it was about 2 months, before my daughter decided to try it again. Wa Laa! It works again.

Now, she has started having wi-fi adapter issues, which is how my computer’s problems started. And my computer is now dead like her’s was.

I’m hoping, mine will come up just one more time. The one good thing is that I started keeping all of my documents and stuff on an external hard drive. (But there is about 4 years worth of pictures that I didn’t have backed up anywhere. It was on my to do list )

Cloud computing is a great concept. Add in some great open source software and you can recover from a computer crash pretty quickly.
