If you’ve ever pictured yourself sipping a Corona on a beach in the Caribbean while dollars are popping in to your bank account… then you have definitely dreamed of the Internet lifestyle.

But are you really trying to live it?

One way to live the Internet lifestyle is to stay MOBILE. Which means you can work from anywhere with an Internet connection, even in the Caribbean.

That means cloud computing. Or using online applications that are available from any web browser.

For the past couple years, I’ve mostly done that. But recently when my computer died, I realized I hadn’t made the full switch. All of my excel documents (which I made inside OpenOffice) were lost along with many of my brainstorms inside .txt documents.

I can take a hint. So now I’ve switched to Google Docs for spreadsheets. Surprisingly, Google Docs works very well and can essentially replace Microsoft Office (at least for my needs).

That means my list of mobile software programs for my business now looks like this…

1. Gmail
2. Google Calendar
3. Google Docs
4. Wordpress or (Internet Business Box)
5. CopyBreeze

If you switch your business around to use these programs, you’ll instantly find yourself more mobile and ready to live the Internet lifestyle.

You’ll also notice you’re more protected from hardware failure, which is very important if you run a serious business.

Unbelievable. Suddenly with no warning, my computer decided not to turn on last weekend.

Oh, it turns on for few seconds I suppose. Just long enough to give me hope. But nothing ever appears on the screen before the power shuts off, then on, then off, then on in a never ending loop. Seems to be a common problem with HP Pavillion’s (And here).

In any case, enough woe is me.

This is just another reminder that your computer and all it’s files can go at any time.

If you’ve taken my advice in the past then you’re ready for a computer failure like I was. But if you’re still leaving important files not backed up on your computer, maybe it’s time you consider cloud computing as well.

Here’s my advice in a nutshell.

1. Switch to GMail for handling email, so you can access it at any computer.

2. Use web applications instead of desktop applications whenever you can. For example, Google Calendar is better than using whatever software came installed with your operating system.

3. If you write sales copy, then plead with me to release Copy Breeze immediately so that all of your projects will be backed up both on your webhost and in your email.

4. And use extra space on your webhost’s server to store important files.

Those are my general rules and they made sure the death of my computer was simply an annoyance instead of a disaster.

More than a year later he left me this testimonial.

Stephen Beat A Marketing Team Of Over 15 People

“Stephen wrote a piece for me last year that was directly responsible for $37,410.00 worth of affiliate commissions so far.

“His copy was so good that I started noticing my merchant (who have a direct response marketing team of over 15 people) literally copied my landing page’s headline and changed all their Google ads!”

It’s the Columbia Gorge. Thomas Jefferson sent Lewis & Clark to go find it… in a round-about, not-really kind of way. But Lewis & Clark did travel the length of the gorge on their journey.

It’s an amazing site to see, check it out if you ever get a chance.

One year ago today President Obama was inaugurated.

I wasn’t too excited. Although I wouldn’t have been excited if his opponent would have won either.

I wrote a letter to the President called, “Dear Barack Obama, From I Don’t Give A Damn.” I criticized Barack for straying from our founding documents, attempting to take away more freedoms and promising false change.

Looking back at what I wrote one year later. I feel like I got it exactly right.

Just like I expected, the President hasn’t strayed too far from George Bush. Listening to progressive talk-radio hosts, they know it too. And are starting to turn against the President. Thom Hartmann especially.

I am pleased to see that he hasn’t tried too hard to get a national health care program started. And I’m pleased that some of his other programs like “Cap and Trade” don’t seem to be going anywhere.

I’m also very pleased that Scott Brown won Tuesday. Not because I like Scott Brown, but because it will continue to slow down any “progress” towards large government programs that will be very hard to vote away in the future.

My hope is that Rand Paul and Peter Schiff will be elected to the Senate in 2010. Along with a whole slate of liberty-minded individuals elsewhere in Congress.

All in all, I think this is a very optimistic time for the liberty movement.

God Bless America

OK, I don’t mean it. (Not entirely anyway, I’ll explain in a minute.) Email is obviously great for communicating and has brought the world much closer together…

(Quick question, when was the last time you hand wrote someone a letter and sent it postal mail? I was probably 6.)

…but it does have it’s problems. Notably, spam filters. Ever have an important email get lost in your spam folder? I have. And for me, that usually means I lost a chance at some big bucks.

I’ve had awesome opportunities simply vanish in to my spam filter. And the only reason I know about those is that I found them while digging through the junk, albeit way too late.

Those opportunities include copywriting projects, managing big launches, attending seminars free as a guest… UGH!

But the one that really gets me is when my OWN APPLICATION FORM sends mail to the trash. I recently found a client application that looked like a great lead… in my spam folder… I emailed him back 5 days after he applied and got no reply. I missed my chance.

Of course, there are probably ways to ensure those applications make it to my inbox. But there have been other problems with my application form. It’s written in PHP and uses PHP mail to send the application to my inbox.

Well because I’m on a shared server and PHP mail can be used for spam, my host will randomly shut off the use of PHP mail without telling me. Meaning I’ll not only never receive applications from people who apply until PHP mail is turned back on, I won’t even know there’s a problem!

This has all led me to believe I’m going to need to turn my application form in to an RSS feed. This way whenever I get a new applicant it’ll show up in Google Reader right along side the blogs I read via RSS.

I hope to finish the switch by next week. If you’re a service provider, my bet is you’ll want to switch to this application process too. So when I’m finished, I’ll let you know.
